Phyllis Martin, Founder & Executive Director

As the Executive Director and Founder of The Root of a Woman Christian Magazine Phyllis has a strong calling on her life for women and children.She has worked side by side with her husband as co-pastor for ten years.She is a dynamite motivational speaker who "keeps It real".She has a gift and passion to empower women to be all that God has created them to be. Her motto is “When the woman is empowered, her husband and family are empowered”.

Phyllis is a Certified Interior Designer. She currently holds a C.D.A. in Early Childhood Development, Director’s certification from the State of Texas, a Board Certified Christian Counselor, licensed and ordained minister, and currently working on her bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies.

Linda Thomlinson,Empowerment Facilitator

Linda is an active member of Toastmasters International, with specialized training as a facilitator and a leadership trainee graduate. One of her greatest passions is public speaking and specialized training. Her specialized training's include:Customer Service Champion trainer, facilitating training classes for Sexual Harassment and Diversity as well as Inspirations for the Christian Life.She is a phenomenal and dynamic motivational speaker and trainer with several speaking awards to showcase. Her most recent accomplishment was winning the 2007 Excellence in Government Award in the area of Customer Service.

Mrs. Thomlinson holds an Associate of Arts degree in Health Allied Sciences. She is an active member in her church, and keeping a healthy balanced family life is highly important to her. In her continued pursuit of “Excellence in Communication”. Mrs. Thomlinson believes everyone should be endowed with “G.P.E.C”…Good, Positive, Effective, Communication.GPEC is the pathway to the Road of Success! Dorothy L. Allen, M.A., Early Childhood Development; Special Education

Dorothy is passionate about her work with children and has devoted over 25 years working as an educator, mental health professional and foster parent.She works to empower students to become their best while motivating and encouraging parents to become involved as advocator for their students needs and volunteers at their school.

Dorothy graduated from Tennessee State University with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Child Development and Family Relationship.She also has a Master's degree from Grand Canyon University in Special Education.She currently teaches special education for Fort Bend Independent School District and lives in Missouri City, Texas.She enjoys reading, writing, traveling and conducting seminars on working with special needs children.

Monica Deneen, Graphic Designer

Monica is a seasoned graphic designer and has been in the design profession for over 10 years.She's worked for the award-winning Black Collegiate and Black MBA magazines.As a freelance artist, she was commissioned by Mc Donald 31 Elementary School to design and paint the school's mascot. She is a native of New Orleans and in her spare time enjoys designing heirloom dolls.
